You are here >> EPCs  The Energy Performance Certificate
The top right hand picture illustrates the main heat loss areas that an assessment for an
EPC will record and make appropriate recommendations for improvement. Red indicates
the main heat loss areas; the roof and windows through to yellow for the walls and then
blue for the outside. This property indicates that there is no insulation in the roof space and
walls and that there is no double glazing to the windows. Whereas the picture underneath
Illustrates a well insulated house - the roof, walls and windows.

An assessment for the EPC together with the details of the construction of the property
will also record details of the heating, hot water and lighting. Recommendations will also
be made to make improvements to these if required.

The Energy Performance Certificate
The  EPC  provides  a  rating for a    building
showing it's own energy efficiency and the
environmental impact. The ratings are just
like the labelling found on appliances  such
as  fridges  and  cookers  and  are  standard,
so the energy efficiency of one building can
easily   be   compared   with   another   similar
building.
The certificate will make recommendations
on how to improve the energy  efficiency of
the  building     by  way  of  both  low  and  high
cost measures.
The energy efficiency rating is a measure
of a home's overall efficiency. The higher
the rating the  more   energy-efficient   the
home is , and  the lower the  fuel  bills are
likely to be.
